Back on Track

so.

in my interim, I gave up posting in 2p2's BBV and OOT. Funny places, but they don't advance my understanding of the game. Have played live a bit, and my problems with live play remain the same: maintaining focus / extending mental duration / avoiding tilt.

having internet colleagues and coaches makes for an interesting glimpse into the world of +25nl stakes. i've given up on chastising myself for mistakes that i shouldn't make -- instead, i'm just going to stop making them instead of beating myself up over it. should i come to the realization that i simply cannot stop making mistakes when i know better, then i'll realize this game isn't for me and switch to limit.

lol, unlikely.

having a job i really like, a great girlfriend, family i can talk to, social life, etc...really makes for great anti-tilt. my goal over the next week is to continue the pattern i've been on: work, come home, play 1k hands, work out, pass out. I bet I can get about 4k hands in per week doing this. in addition, i'm really going to work at defining the moment where the wheels come off. knowing when i'm going from THINKING PLAY to AUTOMATIC PLAY. not tilt, but the autopilot that leads to mistakes that leads to tilt.

it's this non-thinking state that i type to you from now -- and i don't feel bad about it. there is a finite amount of willpower in the brain, and i've spent mine on learning some reverse engineering software, lifting heavy weights (harder on the brain than one might think) and getting in about 800 hands.

It's really nice to be back. I'll be sure to update my 'about me' portion of the blog tomorrow -- just want to find some hands to discuss for now.

- not to be results oriented, but I'm kinda happy that this guy made this play. setting up this image with him resulted in 2 buy ins later down the line.

- this is a habit i've since broken. Fold preflop! I am soooo fucked against this cat's range as a TAG. And there isn't a line that I really like. flat the flop, fold the turn if I miss? don't have odds for it. Better to stay out of trouble with this suited connector. MAYBE flat the flop, fold the turn...

- villain here is 32/17/3, and this is just about the bottom of my calling range. was surprised to NOT see a boat. I won't call off here against a nit, but this player was tilty and laggy....

- LOVE my line on this hand. I feel like it maximizes return from TP-type hands, and villains that are scared of the flush draw. almost stabbed my eyeballs in at showdown :) don't be results-oriented!!

- free monies ftw

- kind of a light river call. villain was 40/17/5 over 500 hands. Standard reraise of a perceived poorly playing LAG PF. Not sure whether leading out is a good idea, as he is capable of RR'ing with air here, but when he flats IP, I think I have the best hand. was more worried about 99 on the turn, but i was pot committed at that point.

more later? maybe i should blog more from work, now that i can.

Comments:
1) arg no completing here in BVB! raise 77 all day! i really don't like the L/RR here. and especially i don't like the shoving on his committing 4bet as you're folding out none of his range (he's totally priced in) and even his bluff range is committed to calling you, so you're either crushed or flipping. your best case scenario is that he folds to your L/RR. if he calls, you're turning your 77 into a bluff if you cbet almost any flop, because your hand is way over-repped. 77 has a lot of value heads up, so i wouldn't be doing that.

2) if this guy is a habitual isolator and folds to 3bets (as well as the PF limper) then i might 3bet. not a fan of calling here in this spot as you're going to be playing this multiway (likely) and your hand has so little SD value (i wouldn't mind just calling here with 78s+, 79s+).

i'm kinda torn with your flop play. on one hand, if he's isolating light, it's better to raise because he'd have more bluffs than usual. if he's not that type, calling is better because he has a more narrow range -- so when you're getting it all in on this flop, you're behind.

3) i like the flop raise on this board. christ that is a bad turn card, but i think i'd still be calling with all of the money in the pot.

4) i'm not a fan of the flop call -- there are too many cards which hurt your equity on the turn or scare him and make him shut down. put in a raise on this flop and he may spaz out and shove draws, pair/draws, TP. i dont know what you mean by maxing against villains that are scared of the flush draw. if you flat here and the 3flush hits -- are you saying that you can rep the flush? if so, that's no good because we have a hand which can beat a lot of his range but is of less value than the flush. the flush card would just make him fold more of the hands which we were getting value from (Q w/ no spade etc) and give him more equity if he has a spade.

5) lolz vn

6) river call.....? i think against someone with those stats i'd consider flatting here (PFR of 17 and he's in early position), but if you don't have a ton of hands and you know he'll call ur 3bet with hand that are worse, then it's fine. i'm really not sure how i feel about getting it all in here as i think he still has a lot of Q's in his range which he'd just be flatting the flop with. again, if he's the type of opponent that will be playing draws passively, getting it in on the turn is okay.
