Trip Report: Longhorn CardRoom 072607
Just came back from the Longhorn Cardroom, which is precisely 4 minutes from my house. Ha ha. It's an apartment that people hooked up with chairs/tables/satellite tvs and started dealing. Mostly 1/2 NL and tournaments ranging from $50-100 buy in.
We rolled for the $60 tournament and assured cash bustouts afterwards. I managed to set a personal record for fastest blowout of a tournament.
1st hand: KdKh in CO+1, 1 limper from UTG. with blinds at 25/50, and stacks of 2500, I raised to 200, everybody folds to the limper, who calls. Flop Js5s4s. Shit. He bets 400. I raise to 800, and get a quick call. Turn brings Jh, and a pot-sized bet which blows me out of the hand. I show in disgust. Mistake one.
6th hand: AJo in SB. Button raises to 300, I call. Flop comes AsTh3c. Check-check. Turn rag. He bets 500, I raise him to 1000, he calls. River Jd!! Sweet, now I know I'm good. I'm bouncing my chips in my hand gently, thinking about bet size, when the dealer interprets me 'checking'. And the villain reacts by instantly putting me all-in for 1800 more. And I'm thinkin' 'I was worried about AQ/AK before the river. Possibly he slowplayed a set or two pair? Or maybe he just is trying to bluff at me? He saw me minraise and then fold, so he probably just thinks i'm a weak player! Yeah!'
I threw out (ie. decided I would pay off) TT/33. No draws were given the correct odds; I thought Ace-paired was mostly likely, and I was ahead of those. So I call. He flips KQ, revealing that he had called a 500 bet into an 1100 pot to chase his gutshot. Well, given my not betting the flop, he can't put me on an Ace. Maybe a T, QQ/JJ. I certainly acted scared of the ace on board. So when he's going all in, he probably thinks he can run me out!
Still...he was getting slight better than 2-1 with his attempt to hit 4 (Jack) outs. Maybe he thought a Jack/Queen/King would save him. Still a HORRIBLE turn call. I doubt he considered it though, more like "minraise, call w/anything". In retrospect, I was really afraid of AQ/AK, figured I was screwed and didn't really try anything. Fuck.
More on the cash game later.

My E-mail is at the bottom of my comment if anyone cares to verify this or ask me anything about the longhorn card room situation I experienced last night. My name is Rayna.
I went to the Longhorn card room last night for the very first and last time.
I went to apply for a job dealing cards. They asked if I wanted to play and I declined because I had only 20.00. Then I was tired of waiting to talk to someone bout the job so I played. They said it was fine to buy in with 20.00 since it was a very small game.
Angela (one of the owners) was trying to strong arm me out of the very first pot and I swear it was out of pure meanness, I could feel it. She puts me in for my lil ol 20.00 and it backfired on her... I won she had no worthy cards At all!. It was obvious she had some sort of instant attitude towards me. Even one of the regular players asked her why she was acting so differently.
I was saying nothing at all as I continued to win hand after hand. . My cards did all the talking and hers were screaming "mercy" . It was just like the twilight zone. It wasn't long til I had more than her and everyone else on the table. Hey... I was as shocked as anyone cause it is not often people are betting like crazy on BS cards against my pair of A's or K's with three of a kind on the board. Cha ching.
Keep in mind I was quiet and I tipped the dealer every single hand , even when the hand was 20 or less. Whatever the problem was it had nothing to do with me unless me winning some hands is a reason. That is just crazy though. I wasn't even playing bad hands only the solid hands.
Then Angela (granted this card room's motto is that they are the friendliest game in town)1/2 owner TELLS me I HAVE to give the girl that lost against me in this one hand a "REBATE" cause that's how they do it around there.. she says. I told her I wasn't giving my money to anyone! So then she tells me that if I don't give this chick a "rebate" then I won't be working there. I was fine with that, can't say I would want to work anywhere that they treat people in such a screwed up fashion. WTF? That just not my type of work place.
I asked her why it was that I was the only one that was asked to give anyone a so called rebate. She then jumped up said she was tired of my crap (huh? this chick is mixed me up with someone else) and I had to go! I couldn't agree more!
The nice man that had been dealing previous to donya counts my chips tells me I have 176.00. I stand up and angela goes to the back room where the guy takes my chips.. walks out tells me to come here towards the door. She waits til I am at the door hands me ONLY 100.00 and tries to shut the door in my face. I stuck my foot in the door saying OH hell no. This CRAZY Bia Bia grabs mje around the throat and shoves me out the door. Like I said... I don't know any of these people and I dare say they are far from the friendliest game in town. The most crooked game yup! I have never been treated so unjustly for positively no reason at all.
if I were the type to call the law, God knows I would have yesterday. Instead I just want to warn everyone about these people. IF you go there you are making a huge mistake. They are as rude as it gets. Hell you could win big though if Angela is hate N on ya. she beat herself by playing the messed up hands that she was playing and wanted to take it out on me cause I won the hand (s!!) Now there is a good sport for ya! Sheesh!. Downside is you may not get paid . Beware you may be attacked by the amazon that is a obviously able to bully some weak minded people around, I am not that one.
Karma is real and she will get hers in abundance.
How can people expect to have players with that type of treatment to new comers or anyone? Word of mouth is powerful and I am going to warn everyone about the longhorn card room that is ran by Angela and Donya in South arlington. They are total crooks!
E-mail me for more details.

hey mister, you forgot to add more on the cash game later...i've played with you over there and have found you enjoyable to play with. should be more fun now, as i can now study your play here and hopefully use that to my advantage there, hahahahahahahaha (evil laugh)...
First of all, bring your A-game, and bring plenty of cash. You'll need both to play me.
ok, cock-waving out of the way...
Note the timestamp of this post. I just emailed this person to find out more details. Let's see what she says.
funny things about this post:
- sitting down with $20
- not understand how opponents' strategy changes when you have 10bb in front of you
- i have never met a fish there named rayna.
- thinking my blog is going to tell you anything useful about my play. tell me you understand what any of the acronyms I use mean?
- donya grabbing you around the throat. the woman is 5'4, 110lb. Yeah right.
what actually happened probably is something more like:
-you put bad beats on people
-you got upset at some point
-yelling ensued
-you got kicked out
-you made up this story
honestly, it just doesn't make sense.

I just noticed the E-mail Colin sent me inquiring about my previous post.
Here is my resposnse:
Hi Colin,
I would have responded sooner but this E-mail was in my bulk/span folder. What's odd is I never (even check this folder for E-mail, cause usually there is nothing but BS span. Better late than never that I got this rather interesting E-mail from you to respond to.
Let's talk.If you would like to know what inspires me to write such an "immature and bias "(your words) WARNING on your website... Then call the # I e-mailed you please.
You stated that I must have done something to be treated so unjustly. Then you say that if it had of been YOU then it would of been "dissolved". Keep on patting yourself on the back my friend. So far you have been 100% wrong about everything . I was there Colin and somehow you assume that you know what happened? In all fairness if It had not been what I experienced then I too would be skeptical. It doesn't make any sense, I totally agree. If I was readingabout it I am not so sure I would believe it either. It would seem as if I have a grudge towards these people at Longhorn. I'm sure it appears that I surely have a hidden agenda. So I truly cannot see your point of view on this as a surprise.
I do not care if you believe me. If you would like to talk about this then please give me a call. The motive behind what I posted on the Internet was to inform others. You have your own opinion and I can't change that.. for what? Informing poker players of a negative rip off situation I experienced.. that is my only motive. I just so happened to use your site to help me do so. It is not that I think this site is popular of unique (is it?) it just came up under a home poker game search. So please do not feelit is your approval or disapproval I am requesting. Hardly.
It is not about trying to stop people from going to play there. That would of been real easy to call the law that night. I could have filed charges on that Angie wench because she attacked me. When a person puts their hands around your neck and forces you backwards... yup yup I am positive that would be assault. (By the way it was Angie not Donya that was the bold bitch to put her gruby hoofs on me. I may of got the names mixed up but it was not the smaller female with light colored hair. BTW I am 5`2 and 120 so does that mean I deserve to be Okey Doked and disrespected? Shheesh! Besides who cares about the size of a person? Your missing the point (this is directed to the person who responded on website)Brainiac! Nobody but nobody shpuld be putting hands on anyone at a MFing poker game. Contact sport? hardly!)
I am old school where people do not call the law and snitch. Honor among thieves but not thieves. It is just a unspoken code that people (back in the day anyway) do not involve the police. Even though I did nothing to deserve the way I was treated I still had rather just handle it.
No motive to close them down or to hurt business. I feel like that this cannot be something that happens often at Longhorn. If so then they would have no business. So, I figure that I would just let my Very strange experience be known. That way people can be warned . I would of liked to of been warned had this happened to someone else. I do not want anyone to judge that place of my word.Just know before ya go. Don't intend to discourage people cause what good would that do? People will play where they like to play no matter what has happened to another player. I understand that.
The dealer were nothing but nice the night I was there. Then Donya stepped in and dealt and she was not friendly nor evil. I could sense something was up but I thought why the hell would anything be up? None of it made sense Colin. Still I cannot believe what happened to me that night. Even though I know this was a very rare situation (I hope) it still has turned me against poker. I just do not have the desire to play or deal cards since then. Well... not as much as normal or whats been normal for 20 years. I went there to apply for a dealing job. I did not know these people at all. I am not the type of person to ever work anywhere that treats anyone unfairly. The thought of dealing for them went out the window early for me. The tension was immediate and the vibes from Angie were too obvious. Even one of the regular players told her he had never seen her act this way, then he asked her what was going on? Hell.... I was hoping to find out what the problem was when he asked that. No luck.
A player that followed me outside( after I was forced to leave with only a portion of my winnings) asked me if I was okay. He kept saying how sorry he was that she was acting like that towards me. He did;t understand but attempted to make excuses by saying she was drunk. He said he beat her out of a big pot earlier and she was mad and took it out on me. WTF... oh that makes me feel so much better HA! Not.
It was like the twilight Zone..
Hey I will admit when I am wrong, had I provoked this at all then I would have a easier time understanding. The whole time I was there I was silent. I wasn't gonna talk shit to any of these people, I do not know any of them. I was slightly out numbered ya know? I couldn't tell anything about them because I am clueless on every ones normal personality there. Plus... I had no reason to be rude or sarcastic to anyone anyway. Hell, little did I know what the experience would be like by the time I left. By the way I never noticed Angie drinkingnor did I get the impression anyone was drunk at all. I was paying more attention to my cards though. It could be I just didn't see her drink. Even if she was drunk out of her mind it wouldn't matter. There is no excuse to treat anyone the way she treated me. There were some nice ( and abnormally quiet ) players there. Not anyone playing was rude except for Angie. I got the feeling that this behavior/ attitude she instantly had towards me was a shock to them as well as myself. ! I had no idea if this was normal for these people or if I was just the very singled out unlucky 100th customer. Sheesh!
Take it for what it is worth. If you have fun there then nobody would ever be able to discourage your choice. Nor would I want to. I felt that I had an obligation to other people to share my experience just to inform them. That is it that is all. Plus I am a firm believer in Karma. I could never get revenge on Angie near as good as her own actions will. She has to deal with her own karma. It surely couldn't be pleasant.
Thank you for inquiring. You could have left off the insinuation that I MUST BE making it up , Facts is it did happen. No matter how you choose to justify what I wrote because you just cannot believe that that is the way things happened. Stay in the safe shelter of your rational ( it is called denial I think) lil mind. Nothing changes what has already taken place my friend. Not everything is going to make sense to you. Deal with it cause I had to accept the fact that there was ZERO logic, no reason, no motive for the bad experience of playing at the Longhorn card room.
Thanks for letting me use your site to inform anyone who needs a good heads up on shiesty poker games.

You're lucky I'm a speed reader. :D
Fair enough. I'm not going to call you and sort it out. If it went down EXACTLY the way you say, then it's all sorts of messed-up.
It obviously doesn't help your case when you make juvenile comments towards ME (thanks for talking about how you play so I can beeeeet uuu).
Probably the only reason I'm bothering to post your comments is because your tone has changed so much, and you're laughing at the voice you used to originally post in. Also, you realize how it doesn't make sense, and stick to your story anyway.
Again, I can only reiterate what I said before: that doesn't sound AT ALL like Angie/Donya, or how they would handle such a situation, but if it DID happen like that, that's all sorts of wrong.
As of today (06/09/08), the Longhorn is under different management. Maybe you'll go back and find a different type of management, one that doesn't let sorties of that sort go on. Best of luck.
